A new Ridgid 18V Octoberane Brushless SDS Plus Rotary Hammer has been discovered on Chinese website Taobao. We wrote about it on August 2017 when the first mock up picture was spotted however this time around we have a couple of actual pictures of the real thing to go by. The new design is considerably different than the original mock up picture which you can view by clicking here. Although the overall shape of rotary hammer designs is similar, there are some cosmetic differences in their details and design cues.

Ridgid did not provide any details and has not yet announced a release date. We do know that the Octane tool communicates with the Hyper Octane battery for improved performance, while being backwards compatible to their 18V batteries. We can also see that it features Ridgids Hex Grip micro texture overmold and their Grip Light trigger that sits below the main trigger and turns on the LED light on the front of the tool allowing it to be used as a temporary flashlight or line up drilling marks without rotating the bit. Not surprisingly this unit looks very similar to the AEG Fusion SDS plus rotary hammer BBH18BL-0 with the exception being that the AEG model has a rafter hook and less overmold around the trigger area. I did reach out to Ridgid but all they could tell me at the time of writing is that it should be available hopefully in the first half of
