La Vergne (TN) The JET 38cm planers are now a reengineered line consisting of the 38cm Helical Head Planer(JWP-15BHH), and the 38cm Straight Knife Planer(JWP-15B). These new JET 38cm planers quietly and efficiently transform rough lumber into work pieces of precise dimension and ultra-smooth surfaces.
The 38 cm planers come with JETs new Precision Air Strut SystemTM (PASSTM) which exerts constant, upward pressure on cutterheads, reducing board snipe. The cutterhead will drop when a board passes through on most planers. However, the PASS TM system uses dual, heavy duty, gas struts to support the cutterhead with upward pressure on each side, preventing it from dropping and causing board snipe.
For quieter cutting and a better finish, the cutterhead for the 38 cm Helical Head Planer has 48 carbide-tipped blade inserts. Straight Knife Planers’ cutterhead is equipped with three high-speed blades that allow for efficient, clean cutting. Cutterhead speed of both planers is 5,200 RPM.
These machines are heavy-duty and feature precision ground, cast-iron tables, four-post design and closed steel bases. This allows for maximum control and support while passing boards through the planer. The Helical Head planer is equipped with rugged, cast iron infeed/outfeed tables. Folding steel infeed/outfeed tables on the Straight Knife Planer help save shop space when the tool is not in use.
The 38 cm planers are driven by powerful 3-HP, single-phase, 230V motors with V-belt transmissions to reduce vibration and running noise. The motor is operated by an easy- to-access, magnetic switch, which has a green safety light that illuminates when the planer is powered.
A two-speed gear box provides dual material feed rates of 16 fpm for a smooth finish when cutting harder woods and 20 fpm for increase cuts-per-inch and quick dimensioning. A push-pull knob allows shifting between feed rates on the fly.
A large, top-positioned hand wheel with positive gear drive allows for quick and accurate table adjustments. The drum height can be adjusted by one revolution of the handle wheel. Each planer has a maximum cut depth of 1/20 cm. Their maximum planing heights are 15 cm and 38 cm respectively.
The planer’s top/back dust port is 10 cm in diameter. It is angled so that the dust hose can be directed out of the way to allow for easy connection to a shop dust collection system. It is recommended that a dust collection system of at least 400 CFM be used.
