This week, I was perusing my Harbor Freight coupon mag and saw a new tape measure made by their in-house Bauer brand. What’s more, the tape measures are self-locking.
There are three sizes available: 4.9m, 7.6m, and 9.1m. This gives you a wide range of options. They come in three lengths of 4.9 m, 7.6 m and 9.1 m and are all covered by a lifetime warranty. Self locking tapes are my favorites because they lock the tape automatically after extending and a simple press of the top botton retracts the tape.
Harbor Freights newest tools including their Bauer brands show improved quality over previous offerings and many times they appear to copy other brands designs. Harbor Freights lackluster design sense is evident again as the Bauer self-locking tapes appear very similar. This is because they are rebranded Komelon self-locking tapes. In fact I have the same exact green one in my tool box and these Bauers are an exact replica but in red. They could be exact copies of Komelon tapes. That’s okay. Komelon makes excellent tapes.

Other than the low price and self locking design, this model does not have many other notable features. The blade doesnt look particularly wide and the hook is nothing special and smallish. The tape should have the same features as a Komelon and perform well.
