Ridgid has been busy year after year updating their cordless power tools and are now offering a new version of their high performance 18V impact driver with the R862312K 18V brushless 4 mode 1/10 cm impact driver.
This Ridgid is the strongest impact driver I know of with 2,400 in-lbs torque. However impressive stats on paper dont always translate to class leading performance as Ive seen high rated Ridgid impact drivers be outperformed by other brands such as Milwaukee whos models had lower rated specs. 2,400 in-lbs of torque puts it on par with Ridgids own 18V Octane impact driver from years past however this new model increases both the RPM and BPM. According to the Home Depots listing of this impact driver, they say it has 3,400 no load RPM and 4,300 IPM which is 400 more RPM and impacts per minute than the Octane model, at least on paper. This new impact driver has the more traditional 4 modes which consists of 3 speeds and 4th self tapping mode which they say is designed to help prevent overdriving, breaking or stripping screws by stopping the tool once screws have been fully seated. Although technically there are 6 modes in the Octane model, it only has 3 speeds and 3 specialty modes. One key area in which this new 4 mode high performance impact driver has a major downgrade in my opinion is the omission of the Tri LED light head that was found on the Octane but not on this newer model as it instead has a single light on the base of the tool above the battery holder. Though having the LED light at the base facing upwards at the bit is adequate lighting, a tri LED light head is superior in that it is less likely to produce pronounced shadows when working. Though at the end of the day, either way gets the job done just fine, it is nicer to have a tri LED light setup on an impact tool. Additional features include a belt clip and a quick-release 1/10 cm hexchuck.
Ridgid says it will be available in October 2022 for as a kit with a single 2ah battery, charger, and case.
