A British Woodworker Tours North America's Best Shops

Although my job allows me to see many cool woodshops and other interesting places, I am jealous of the amazing journey being taken by Stuart Page, a British woodworker.

Page recently completed a furniture-making course at the University of Edinburgh and was awarded a grant by Winston Churchill Memorial Trust for research on Traditional Crafts, Furniture Making, and Sustainable Rural Living in North America.

What that really means is that Page is driving around the United States and Canada this summer and visiting the shops youve read about in the magazines and books and seen on television. He will be able to talk to the owners of these shops and their woodworkers. And hes writing about his travels on his blog.

The blog, cryptically titled One Hairy Arm Goes West is a travelogue of his journey, which began is Los Angeles and will wind his way through the Midwest, Canada and the East Coast. All the while, hes visiting woodworkers at every stop and writing about them on his blog.

He has posted several entries so far about his travels including one about Sam Maloofs’ establishment visit and one more recent entry on the College of the Redwoods. (Photo above, taken from our article last year).

We recommend that you bookmark Pages blog so you can keep up with his adventures. We are aware of some visits coming up but don’t want to reveal the details.

P.S. Ive also added the site to our Blogroll at left in case you forget this link.
